City Dominate the PFA Awards, Phil Foden Voted Player of the Year
August 26, 2024City academy graduate and the pride of Manchester - Philip Walter Foden secured the PFA Player of the Year this week after a stellar season leading Manchester City to another Premier League title. Over the last 5 years, a Man City player has won this prestigious award four times with De Bruyne winning it in 2019 and 2020, Haaland winning it in 2022, and Foden taking home the prize this year. City fans have been patiently waiting for Phil to have a breakout season and it finally came in the form of 39 goal contributions and a boatload of clutch moments, including but not limited to his brace in the final match against West Ham to win the league. Receiving this highly regarded, player-voted award at such a young age solidifies Foden as one of the best players in English football, as well as the world.
Four Manchester City players were named to the PFA Team of the Year, a fantastic reward for their fine seasons. Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Rodri, and Kyle Walker were voted to the team, well-deserved after winning the Premier League for the 4th time in a row. This is the second year in a row that Rodri and Haaland both made the team, unequivocally two of City’s most important players. Haaland secured the Premier League’s Golden Boot once again with 27 goals this season with Rodri, the backbone of this City side, covering every centimeter of the midfield and dominating it every single match. As for Kyle Walker, he continues to defy age my maintaining his fitness and showing he still has the speed to keep up with anyone on the pitch.
Predicting Man City Players for 2024/2025 PFA Team of the Year
Manchester City continue to show why they’re so successful and it all starts with the world-class players they have in the club. If most players stay healthy this season, here are the players I think will make the next team of the year.
- Erling Haaland - Expecting him to grab another Golden Boot award and possibly exceed his 2022 goal count.
- Kevin De Bruyne - If he stayed healthy last season, he would’ve easily made his way into the team of the year. I expect De Bruyne to lead the Premier League in assists this season.
- Rodri - No explanation is needed, he is the best midfielder in the world.
- Phil Foden - The breakout season Phil just had will be an every-year thing for our star boy.
- Joško Gvardiol - Heading into his second year with Pep Guardiola and should be starting most matches will lead to a special season for Gvardiol.
