A New Beginning

To my Manchester City Family:

I hope this letter finds you well.

On the 12th of June, 2023, during what was supposed to be a day of celebration for our historic season, the team and I received heartbreaking news, suddenly losing access to our media account and discovering that a hacker had taken over the platform that we worked tirelessly to build over the course of the past season. After a week of filing reports for fraud, hacking, and security risks to Twitter, our efforts were futile and we found ourselves at a crossroads - do we continue to wait for our fate in the hands of a platform that is notoriously inept at customer service? Pursue legal action? Do we just give up on everything we've worked so hard to build?

In representing the true spirit of the club, I found myself thinking, "how would City handle a situation like this?" Memes of Khaldoon and his lawyers swirled in my head as I contemplated potential measures we could take. But as the initial outrage settled and emotions dwindled, I thought of who we are, what we are, and the answer became quite clear in my mind.

Because of the level of success in the post-takeover era, it's easy to forget that this incredible football club and the fanbase that supports it has truly seen the highs and lows of football. Matter of fact, City, the reigning 3x Premier League defending, treble-winning, European champions have been relegated before. Not once, not twice, not even thrice.. but ELEVEN times. In fact, City is the single English club to have won the top flight only to be relegated the very next season. However, despite the failures and heartbreak, City have always shown their resiliency, spirit, and willingness to go again.

Because we are the boys in blue. And the boys in the blue never give in.

So do we give up? The answer was a resounding no

With that in mind, we decided against pursuing legal action against the hacker, despite discovering their identity. City have proven to be a classy club throughout history, supporting our noisy neighbors when they needed it and routinely holding ourselves to a higher standard against the vitriol spewed our way. We wanted to hold ourselves to the same standard and represent the resiliency and spirit of what Manchester City FC is all about.

Following a significant re-branding effort to distance ourselves from the negative "aura" around our former MCG brand, we're incredibly proud to welcome you to our new and improved platform: Man City International. Like its predecessor, MCI will hopefully be your go-to source for all things Man City. Our vision and goals are the same: to be a platform that every City fan can be proud of and call home. We will work tirelessly to connect fans around the globe, educate new fans about our club and culture, providing engaging content, quality editorial, and timely news updates via our newly-launched social channels

This is a club that has seen it all. This is a fanbase that was packing out stadiums, 30,000+ in the lower divisions. This is a club whose fans chose to support them through thick and thin, when the future wasn’t certain at all. Certain aspects of the club have certainly changed due to investment, but who we are at the core hasn't. And in the face of what appeared to be an uncertain future for our platform, we hope our efforts to move forward with MCI properly represents the ethos and soul of what drives this club and the fans that have supported throughout the years.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support.

We move forward.

One club, one team, one fanbase, together

CTID,

Sheikh (From Twitter, not the real one)
